Recent regulations have made it harder for young people to get their hands on cigarettes and vapes - but now we're investigating a new nicotine product that's growing in popularity. Nicotine pouches, a.k.a 'snus', are small parcels you put on your gums... Presenter Gordon Smart explores how the lack of regulation means children can technically buy them, and the staggering levels of nicotine they contain, that can make people sick.

Pods and Pouches, which manufactures nicotine pouch brand Iceberg, says it limits sales of its product to over 18s, caps nicotine content to 50mg/g, and supports strengthening regulations surrounding the sale and consumption of its products to minors. It says its products undergo rigorous testing, and it believes they offer a healthier alternative to smoking and vaping. It says it works with wholesalers to ensure they target appropriate customers.

Industry voice, the Global Institute for Novel Nicotine, told us that it backs the government鈥檚 plan for an 18 year old age limit and a cap on nicotine pouch strength, and says it is in favour of licensing nicotine pouches so that Trading Standards have authority to act against rogue retailers if needed.

The Department of Health and Social Care told us that the Tobacco and Vapes Bill聽will stop consumer nicotine products, including pouches, from being deliberately branded and advertised to appeal to children.
