Caesar and his army have been engaged in the bloody conquest of Gaul, enslaving or slaughtering it’s many tribes, winning territory for Rome, and wealth and glory for himself. Caesar writes regular despatches to send to Rome - ensuring he controls the story, and that the Roman people celebrate his success. Now he attempts something no Roman has ever tried before – he crosses the Channel to Britain. Although his invasion is actually a failure, the version he recounts for his readers back in Rome is one of unparalleled success.
