Conference of Luca
Caesar engineered an alliance between himself and Rome’s two most powerful men, Pompey and Crassus. This ‘triumvirate’ won Caesar the consulship, and his subsequent chance to conquer Gaul. But now their grip on Rome is faltering, and Caesar calls the two men to an urgent meeting in the north of Italy. He needs to retrench the alliance, to ensure he can remain in Gaul, which not only grants him the opportunity to win wealth and glory, but crucially protects him from his enemies in Rome who want to see him prosecuted, and exiled.
