Creating pop music textures
Nick van Eede from Eighties pop-rock band Cutting Crew explains the compositional processes in 'Big Ideas'. The song is created initially by programming a drum sequence. Synthesised string sounds add rich texture to basic chords, creating mood and interest. The bass player demonstrates how the bass line evolves from an initial simple idea. An electric guitar is used to add a counter-melody.
