Sharp rise in number of home-grown cannabis farms found in Kent

John and Clare with the latest news, travel, and weather, plus stories from around Kent.

Police in Kent say there has been a significant rise in the number of home-grown cannabis farms being found in the county.

Figures obtained by Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio Kent show that last year 280 farms were discovered - almost 100 more than the number they found three years ago.

The authorities say the increase is due to a rising number of organised criminal groups using residential properties in towns and cities to grow cannabis plants.

David Cox from the Landlords Association says anyone offering to pay six or twelve months rent up front could be intending to use the property for growing the drug (06:07, 07:07 and 08:07).

Should unqualified teachers be employed in Kent's academies?

The move - announced by the Education Secretary Michael Gove - will allow academies to recruit people working in areas like business, sport, and the arts who have never worked in state education before. It brings academies into line with independent schools which already bring professionals into the classroom even if they do not have a formal teaching qualification (06:25, 07:22 and 08:22).

When you are driving, do you ever get confused by the sheer number of different road signs?

The Institute of Advanced Motorists says drivers are simply being bombarded with too much information.

They say that too many signs are distracting drivers and causing uncertainty at the wheel.

We hear from our reporter Bob Dale who went sent to the hamlet of Hook Green in West Kent which has a massive array of new speed limit signs on a very small stretch of road (06:52 and 08:48).
