John and Clare with the latest news, travel, and weather, plus stories from around Kent.
If you are a teacher you are probably enjoying a well-earned rest during the Summer holidays. It would seem you might need it as we have discovered a big rise in the number of pupils in Kent being suspended for violence against teachers. Last year, nearly 750 students were suspended specifically for assaults on staff - up 15% on the previous year.
This pushed the total number of suspensions in the county up to more than 16,500. The majority of those were for the physical abuse of other pupils, verbally abusing adults and being constantly disruptive (06:07, 07:07 and 08:22).
Have you ever considered donating your organs? Have you signed up to the organ donation register?
Right now in Kent there are 220 people who are waiting for a transplant.
Last year seven people in the county died whilst holding out for an organ.
The British Medical Association is calling for a new system of presumed consent, where you have to opt out if you do not want any of your organs donated (06:25, 07:22 and 08:22).
Also, a Kent farmer is warning that British bacon and sausages could be off the shelves by Christmas if pig farmers are not paid more for their produce.
The National Pig Association says its farmers are making huge losses in the face of increased feed prices and competition from cheap foreign imports.
They say the supermarkets determination to offer cheap deals, means that farmers are forced to sell their animals and products at unrealistic prices to stay in business (07:48 and 08:48).
