Sharp rise in young self-harm hospital admissions

There has been a big increase in the number of hospital admissions in Kent as a result of children and young adults harming themselves. It is up more than half in the last five years.

According to official NHS figures released exclusively to Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio Kent, in the 12-months to April 2007, there were just under 900 hospital admissions involving those aged 25 and under.

However, provisional data for the past year, now puts the figure at over 1300 (06:07, 07:07 or 08:07).

Medway council is calling for a change in the law to stop the growing number of payday loan shops springing up in the area. It says there are 23 such shops in Gillingham and Chatham High Streets, and that is part of the reason why the area's got one of the worst debt problems in the country.

We are talking credit cards, store cards, and other unsecured debt - the average person in debt in Medway owes a staggering Β£43,000 (06:39, 07:22 and 08:22).

A small Kent company is making speciality breads for athletes and VIPs at the Olympic Games.

The half-a-million pound contract has got staff at the bakers, based in Margate, working almost as hard as our Olympians in order to satisfy demand.
