Thanet District Council has refused to support night flights at Manston Airport.
Last night, members of the cabinet agreed the potential economic benefits that might flow from night flights had been over-estimated by the airport, but that the noise and disturbance impact had been under-estimated.
The decision comes just three weeks after Manston airport was cited for the first time by the government as a possible solution to increasing airport capacity in the South East (06:07 and 07:07 and 08:07).

Critics are calling on councils to dip into their reserves to help cushion the blow of cuts in central government funding (06:22, 07:22 and 08:22).
Did you know it is 250 years since Kent gave the world the "sandwich."
The fast food favourite was created by the 4th Earl of Sandwich John Montague during a hard night's gambling.
This weekend, the East Kent town is celebrating the historic moment (06:54 and 08:54).
