Maidstone tackles binge drinking

John and Clare with the latest news, travel, and weather, plus stories from around Kent.

Underage and binge drinking is a big problem in our towns and cities, with thousands of hospital admissions and alcohol related crimes every year. Now Maidstone is to become one of ten areas around the UK to tackle the problem, with a share of a Β£1m fund from the government (06:07, 07:07 and 08:07).

The Eurozone's in crisis following election results in both France and Greece, Spain's economic crisis and political uncertainty in the Netherlands.

This has led to Sterling/Euro exchange rates hitting a three and a half year high - which is great news on the holiday money front if you are planning a trip across the Channel.

However, if you are a Kent businessman who exports to the Eurozone - things are just a little bit more difficult for you (06:25, 07:22 and 08:22).

There was success for Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Local Radio at the prestigious Sony Radio Awards last night.

Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio Kent's very own Sean Rowley picked up a Silver in the Music Broadcaster of the Year category, beating presenters from Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ National radio. He describes his show as the "ultimate late-night listening experience" (08:53).
