Kent Police could disclose domestic abuse to new partners

There are more than 400 serial domestic violence offenders known to Kent Police. The force is now sharing information through a national database.

There are more than 400 serial domestic violence offenders known to Kent Police.

The force is now sharing information through a national database, with a tracking system meaning new partners of offenders could receive warning of their violent behaviour.

We hear from Detective Chief Inspector Andy Pritchard and Kathy, an ambassador for Thanet-based domestic violence charity Oasis, who was not aware her new partner had been violent towards five other women before he attacked her.

Nick Pickles, from civil liberties watchdog Big Brother Watch, tells John and Clare why he thinks tracking these offenders is a dangerous development.

Also, a group of housing associations in Kent is warning that the shortage of affordable one-bedroom houses for those on benefits will get worse.

The government wants to pay some claimants less if they live in a house with a spare room. Ministers say they want to bring the system into line with the private sector.

We speak to Brian Johnson, Chief Executive of the Moat Housing Group and Dennis Rees OBE, a board member of the Tenant and Residents Organisations of England (TAROE).

And are you happy with travelling by train? If so, you are among an increasing majority of passengers who are satisfied with the service in Kent. Train operator Southeastern is claiming to have achieved its highest-ever level of punctuality and customer satisfaction.

The company cites research by the official watchdog Passenger Focus, although it says it's the high-speed service that has boosted the figures.

We speak to John Nicholson, Co-Founder of the Alliance of Kent Commuters, and Roger Gale, MP for Thanet North, who believe the figures should not be taken at face value. Sim Harris, Editor of Rail News, also adds his expert opinion.
