Sheppey reacts to Thamesteel administration

John and Matt with the latest news, travel, and weather, plus stories from around Kent.

Efforts will continue today to try and find a buyer for Thamesteel on the Isle of Sheppey. Around 400 workers at the plant received letters this morning confirming that they are being made redundant.

We hear from Gordon Henderson, MP for Sittingbourne and Sheppey, and Tom Butler, Branch President of Thamesteel Community Union (07.07).

We also gauge the reaction of local residents and business owners to discover what effect it could have on the community in Sheerness as a whole.

Also on the programme, described as a "positive milestone", we break the news that Pfizer is in detailed talks with a potential buyer of its site at Sandwich.

John and Matt speak to Laura Sandys, MP for Thanet South (07.17) and we hear from David Foley, Chief Executive of the Thanet and East Kent Chamber of Commerce (06.17).

And campaigners in villages around Gravesend are celebrating after plans to build hundreds of homes on greenbelt land were thrown out.

Thousands of people in North Kent expressed opposition to house building on the greenbelt in a consultation.

However, the leader of Gravesham Council, John Burden, is warning that those who fought the plans will now have to convince government inspectors of their view.

Meopham residents voice their opinions on the developments, and Councillor Burden and Sue Gofton, an anti greenbelt campaigner from Meopham, join us live on the programme to have their say (07.23).
