Thanet scraps 24-hour CCTV

Thanet Council has revealed it will not be monitoring its CCTV cameras 24 hours a day any more. There will be no operators manning the control room between 3am and 9am. It has been staffed round the clock since the late 1990s.

Thanet North MP Roger Galer Gale spoke to Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio Kent Breakfast ahead of the parliamentary debate about Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ plans to cut local radio output.

In local radio, across England, around 280 jobs are to go, with a proposal to share afternoon, evening and some weekend programmes, alongside the closure of most medium wave transmitters.

Earlier this month, Mark Thompson, the director-general announced a 20% cut in spending over five years and the closure of 2,000 posts, across the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ.

Biggin Hill Airport near Westerham is dropping plans to operate scheduled passenger flights. Instead, managers want to grow as a so-called 'executive' airport, serving the business community.

Responding to the government's consultation on the future of aviation, it has ditched proposals for mainline passenger services operating out of the airport.
