Victims call for drug driver roadside test

The family of a 14-year-old girl from Biggin Hill near Westerham, who was killed by a driver who had smoken cannabis, is calling for police to be given roadside drug testing kits.

The family of a 14-year-old girl from Biggin Hill near Westerham, who was killed by a driver who had smoken cannabis, is calling for police to be given roadside drug testing kits.

Lillian Groves was run over outside her home last summer. The driver responsible had traces of the drug in his system when he had a blood test several hours later at a police station. He was jailed for eight months.

Her family believe he would have got a longer jail term if police had been able to give him a drug test immediately after the accident.

With demand for rental property booming, there has also been a rise in the number of complaints about landlords. The housing charity Shelter says complaints have shot up 25% in two years. It says that disrepair, unlawful eviction and harassment are on the increase.

An academic at the University of Kent has been granted Β£100,000 to spend a year studying lap dancing clubs.

Professor Phil Hubbard from the university's school of social research work will look at the effect the clubs have on their local communities, and people's perceptions of them.
