Living in some parts of Medway can knock ten years off your life

John and Clare with the latest news, travel, and weather, plus stories from around Kent.

We are told we are all living longer and in most cases that is true. But not if you live in some parts of the Medway Towns. Men in the most deprived areas there can expect to die nearly a decade earlier than their neighbours just a few streets away.

The average life expectancy in the UK for men is nearly 80, and for women it is 82. But in some parts of Medway, men will not make it to 70 and women will fail to reach 80 (06:07, 07:07 and 08:07.)

The Prime Minister has promised that Kent's green belt will not be concreted over as a result of controversial changes to planning rules.

David Cameron said the changes proposed by Tunbridge Wells MP and Planning Minister Greg Clark were needed to make sure much needed new homes can be built (6:22, 07:22 and 08:22.)

It is a big day for two of Kent's arts venues.

The Turner Contemporary in Margate welcomes the arrival of Rodin's Kiss and in Canterbury it is curtain up for the new Marlowe Theatre (06:41, 06:54, 07:39, 07:48, 08:39 and 08:48.)
