Campaigners in Kent win their fight for debate in Parliament

Campaigners from Kent take their fight for cheaper petrol and diesel to the Conservative Party Conference today.

More than 100,000 people have now signed an online petition calling for the government to scrap fuel duty increases planned for next year. That means the issue should now be debated in parliament.

Since the conflict began 382 British soldiers have lost their lives including 21 from Kent or serving with Kent army regiments.

Nato has begun the long process of handing power over to Afghan forces with most
international troops scheduled to leave by 2015.

Sun worshippers have been welcoming the soaring temperatures in Kent and we heard from some very happy traders from the coast earlier. However, the unseasonal weather is yet another blow for Britain's struggling retailers.

Temperatures reached a record high of 29.9 degrees in Gravesend on Saturday but this could not have come at a worse time for the retail industry, which is being hit hard by a slump in consumer spending.
