Pembury's new hospital countdown

Matt Davison sits in alongside Clare with the latest news, travel, and weather for Kent.

Patients and NHS bosses are just days away from one of the biggest upheavals in the county's health service for more than a decade.

In five days time, the Kent and Sussex Hospital in Tunbridge Wells will close its doors for good.

In the meantime, a massive moving operation will kick in to transfer all of its patients to a brand new Β£25m facility four miles down the road.

Tributes are being paid to a soldier who died after being shot during a training exercise in East Kent. It happened at the Lydd ranges on Wednesday afternoon but details were only released yesterday.

It is one of East Kent's most controversial proposals since the construction of the Channel Tunnel rail link, and today the public inquiry into the expansion of Lydd Airport comes to an end.

The airport's owners want to lengthen its runway and build a new terminal to provide an international service. There has been strong local opposition to the idea.
