Goshawk nestcam
Steve Roberts and Malcolm have helped the Springwatch team set up cameras round a goshawk's nest. Earlier in the year there were three eggs in it and when cameraman John Aitchison returns to see how they're faring, he finds the female on the nest. When she leaves, the remote camera shows she now has two chicks - one of the eggs has failed to hatch. One chick is much bigger and stronger than the other, which is not unusual for birds of prey, as it will have been laid and hatched first. Though the mother is attentive and feeds the chicks regularly, she isn't really discerning and in the end the stronger chick ends up with most if not all the food.
