It's their soft and cuddly exterior, big, limpid eyes, twitching nose and whiskers that make the rabbit a real favourite for most people. Their fluffy white tails bobbing up and down are a welcome sight, but the way they move also helps explain their place in our affections. Scampering and hopping is endearing, although not if its a frog and makes us jump too. However, rabbits also cause substantial problems, particularly when they reach large numbers (as in Australia). They contribute to soil erosion and can eat their way through flowers and crops at speed. When a persistent young buck is trying to usurp the dominant male a jump fight ensues where serious damage can be inflicted during high kicking blows.
