Turning on and evicting members of your own family may seem unusual, but it may be the only chance for the family's long term success. Litters tend to have a greater survival rate when there are just four or five breeding females in a group and therefore a manageable number of pups. The older members of the Banded Brothers have turned on the new female contenders who want to breed. Evictions are usually instigated by established members of the group, with others joining in, keen to show their allegiance. The young females try to get away, but as such a small group their chances of survival would be very slim, if they tried to make it on their own. Their best bet is to stay near to the family and hope the tension and frustration dies down. Eventually, the agressors move off with the pups allowing the castouts to come out of hiding. There are four individuals in the evicted group, two young females, one young mother and Ginger, who was probably just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Shuuned by the rest of the group, they need to keep their distance, but if they go too far off, they may be lost forever.
