Lady Gaga and the 2021 Bake Off Winner!

Lady Gaga chats to Zoe about her new film House Of Gucci and we hear from Giuseppe Dell’Anno, the 2021 Bake Off winner. Plus Zoe quizzes the QI Elves in The Why Workshop.

Lady Gaga chats to Zoe about her new film, 'House Of Gucci', the crime drama directed by Ridley Scott, based on the 2001 book 'The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed' by Sara Gay Forden. She stars alongside Adam Driver, Jared Leto, Jeremy Irons, Salma Hayek, and Al Pacino. Lady Gaga is a singer and actor who shot to fame in 2008 with her debut album, The Fame. Since then she's released another 5 studio albums including last year's Chromatica, collecting 11 Grammys on the way as well as releasing 2 collaborative albums with American singer Tony Bennett. She also starred in the critically acclaimed musical drama film A Star Is Born and her contributions to the soundtrack spawned the chart-topping single Shallow, which made her the first woman to win an Academy, Grammy, BAFTA, and Golden Globe Award in one year!

Plus, Zoe speaks to Giuseppe Dell’Anno, live from his home in Bristol, the morning after he's crowned winner of the Great British Bake Off 2021. Giuseppe lifted the coveted trophy after a heart-warming 10 weeks in the famous tent, competing against Chigs Parmar and Crystelle Pereira.

And in The Why Workshop, Zoe quizzes the QI Elves with more wonders and ponders, including your questions.

Along with Clare Runacres on news, Richie Anderson on travel and Mike Williams on sport, Zoe and the team have the best start to your morning.

There's also a daily Pause For Thought from Laura Marks and your calls, texts, emails and voice notes as Zoe entertains the nation with fun for the family!

Pause For Thought

Pause For Thought

I am a bit of a climate warrior but I’m not really into nature.Β Β Whilst I love a bunch of fresh flowers, and did grow a few tomatoes in lockdown, myΒ horticulturist tendencies end there.Β So, when I found myself part of aΒ WhatsAppΒ group overflowing with photos of nature, I admit I was a little tempted to hit mute. On further reflection I discovered the 90 group members had one thing in common – our love for Juliet, our friend who is currently battling cancer.Β Β As Juliet, creative, caring, charismatic and countryside obsessed, faces chemotherapy with its side effects of hair loss, weakness and uncertainty about the future, her friends from all round the globe are harnessing the restorative power of nature in all its finery, seasonality and diversity.Β

They’ve posted golden leaves scattered on Hampstead heath, autumn glory from Inverness, the sunlight reflecting on the church steeple in Muswell hill, a fox out for a walk on a lead, a bright pink dahlia, last week’s full moon over Camden Town, puppies at play, the sunrise over Loch Morlich and even a rainbow over Finchley.Β Β Every ping delivers Juliet a photo, with love, encouragement, kindness and support.Β As she starts each new round of treatment the pings reach new heights, each photo a small act of kindness by the sender.Β

This week was Mitzvah Day, the international faith-based day of good deeds when we are encouraged to come together to do small acts of kindness (Mitzvahs) for charities or people who need support.Β Β With pandemic caution, many projects had to take place outside including litter-picks, food-bank collections, tree and bulb planting, leaf sweeping, each a small gesture with a big impact.Β β€œSmall acts of kindness”, wrote the late chief rabbi Lord Sacks, β€œcan change and humanise our world.”

The act of sending a photo to Juliet is a very small act of kindness but collectively, it has created a wave of love, an affirmation of life, and a collage of beauty. So, still resisting the mute button, I listen to my phone pinging away all night, because, as Elaine starts her day in Singapore and Lisa ends hers in New York, I know that Juliet, at home in London, on Mitzvah Day or any day, is never all alone.Β
