Jennifer fears the worst and there’s a twist at the Flower and Produce Show.
Jennifer’s anxious about going to the Flower and Produce Show – her first time as one of its judges – because of what people might be saying about Alice’s decision not to move back in with Chris and Martha. Jennifer worries how Chris is coping. Brian accompanies Jennifer to the village hall for moral support. Later, Jennifer tells Brian how disappointing the number of entries were. Meanwhile, he’s heard a rumour about Eddie’s strategy to mark Joe’s centenary.
Eddie’s miffed that Kenton and Jolene haven’t held back from entering classes at the Flower and Produce Show in order to help the Grundys win in honour of Joe’s 100th birthday. Bert’s not abstaining; he thinks the best way to honour Joe is to compete as hard as he would have done himself. While the judges deliberate, Kenton offers Eddie a pint on the house. He thinks of his dad often too. Eddie reports that when he was at the Beechwood estate earlier he had the feeling someone was watching him.
Back at the village hall, Kenton and Jolene and Eddie are all disappointed in the judging of their entries. And Jennifer’s had a word with Eddie about dissuading people from entering. Jennifer announces that Bert Fry has won the Freda Fry Memorial Cup for Best in Show. She then announces that Bert has suggested another overall award is given for Entry that Raises the Biggest Smile in memory of Joe Grundy. Eddie’s chuffed when it’s awarded to Poppy for her animal collage.
