Dundee Flower and Food Festival
Nicola Singleton and Jenny MacPherson visit one of Scotland's thriving festivals to get growing and cooking advice from the experts and judges.
Nicola Singleton takes Jenny MacPherson to Dundee to show her that flower shows aren't old fashioned. They join the crowds sampling the fantastic seasonal food and admiring the prize winning blooms. George Thompson of the Begonia Society tells them what the judges are looking out for, and has some words of wisdom for the novices. Chef Praveen Kumar uses locally grown spinach and potato to make palak aloo. In the floral marquee Brian Young demonstrates how your choice of spring bulbs can give your garden a colourful facelift. Russell Walker and Keith Mitchell share their secrets for making the perfect pot of jam. Some massive marrows catch Nicola and Jenny's eye, so Bill Duff from the National Vegetable Society explains how to grow kingsize carrots, onions and leeks. Then Jenny tests David Rutter and Daniel Radtke from Dundee & Angus college to see if they can come up with some quickfire recipe suggestions for the veg. Finally we look ahead to Christmas! It might be months away, but Colin Carmichael says now is the time to plant your festive hyacinths.
