Red Wednesday is an attempt to focus attention on the increasing numbers of people suffering across the world for their religious faith. Β The same concern is being marked today, designated the International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church.
Christians are almost certainly the biggest single group facing persecution, but people of all faiths can be affected. Β Just how big is this problem? Β Why is it happening? Β And what are the realistic prospects of matters improving?
Joining Roy Jenkins to explore the issues are John Pontifex, Editor in Chief of a major report on religious freedom being published this week by the Catholic agency Β Aid to the Church in Need; Β Mervyn Thomas, Chief Executive of the charity Christian Solidarity Worldwide; Β Abdul-Azim Ahmed, Editor of the online journal βOn Religionβ; and Bishop Angaelos, General Bishop of the Coptic Orthodox Church in the UK
