We mark the 400th anniversary of the death of Britain’s most famous bard - by exploring the relationship between Shakespeare and religious faith.

Roy Jenkins and guests look at the religious influences on Shakespeare and his works, discuss the religious turmoil of his day and ask what, if anything, we can know of Shakespeare’s own beliefs.

The theatre director Sir Trevor Nunn has reportedly argued that Shakespeare has a hundred times more wisdom and insight about life, than the Bible.  But is he right?   And do Shakespeare’s works constitute a secular bible?
