Hunter, a new two-part drama from Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Drama Production for Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ One

Geoffrey Streatfeild – DS Nick Dyer

When he first read the script for Hunter Geoffrey Streatfeild, who plays DS Nick Dyer, could imagine the page-turner being transferred to the screen.

Μύ

"It was great because I found I just wanted to keep on reading it, which essentially means when it gets to screen, the audience is going to want to keep on watching it."

Μύ

Streatfeild praises writer Mick Ford's script for its realism and the sense it gives of what its like to deal with an operation like the one the team are faced with.

Μύ

"One of the best things about Mick's writing is the sense of the pace that the operation needs to go at, and the skills that everybody needs to succeed as a team.

Μύ

"It's not just about Barclay solving the crime all on his own in a very short time frame. It's about him being able to control a group of other policeman with all the various talents and flaws of their individual personalities, and to navigate each of the various paths of the procedure."

Μύ

Streatfeild describes DS Dyer as: "Basically a good cop and a bad boy. I get the impression that, inevitably, if you work on cases that are very, very intense, the lines can get blurred between your personal life and your private life – and in his private life I think he's quite naughty!"

Μύ

Despite his bad boy ways, Streatfeild thinks that Barclay has a soft spot for him.

Μύ

"I expect that Barclay knows that Dyer's got a weakness for the opposite sex and they're probably very dissimilar in character, but I think that Barclay knows that Dyer has his uses.

Μύ

He doesn't ask too many questions because, generally, in matters of policing and actually trying to catch the perpetrators he's pretty on it, he’s pretty smart. He's sharp and he's a good cop."

Μύ

So how does that compare to his relationship with Foster?

Μύ

Streatfeild smiles: "I think there's probably been a bit of previous, although what exactly that might have been we haven't quite worked out. They have worked together on some pretty intense cases in the past, and they are both single so they've probably flirted heavily with each other at the very least."

Μύ

Nevertheless, this doesn't seem to jeopardise his relationships with the rest of the team.

Μύ

"The boys get on well, but there's quite a lot of tension with the various girls in the office. But, overall, they're still a very tightly bonded team."

Μύ

Streatfeild admits he was fascinated and impressed by the structures that exist for dealing with child kidnap cases such as the one in the drama.

Μύ

"It's fascinating the way it's changed; they know so much now about the behaviours of the sort of people that take kids that they actually have several prescribed procedures that they have to follow.

Μύ

It's a mammoth operation, and on top of that you have to factor in the role of the media which is incredibly important as well. It's fascinating."
