Jimmy McGovern's acclaimed drama The Street set to return to Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ One

Jimmy McGovern's emotionally powerful hit Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ One drama, The Street, continues to attract Britain's finest film, television and stage talent as well as introduce newcomers in its third series which is currently filming in the North West of England and completes shooting March 2009.

To date The Street has scooped British television's top industry awards for two consecutive years winning both the 2007 and 2008 BAFTA and RTS awards for best drama series.

At the 2007 International Emmy Awards Ceremony Oscar-winner Jim Broadbent shared the best actor award for his role as a pensioner in the first series of The Street, shown in 2006, while the series scooped an Emmy for best drama series.

An ITV Production, this third series of The Street offers six brand new uncompromising stories have started filming in and around Manchester this month. Further casting will be announced shortly.

Timothy Spall reprises his role as the cash-strapped but indefatigable ex-cabbie, Eddie, who is a loyal friend to all in his street and the wider community.

Ger Ryan returns as Margie, Eddie's beloved and long suffering wife, with Ruth Jones (Gavin And Stacey) playing Sandra, the lonely telephonist at Alpha Cabs where Eddie works and to whom he lends a helping hand.

In the opening episode Bob Hoskins stars as local hero, Paddy, a publican who stands his ground against seemingly insurmountable odds when he crosses hard man Miller played by Liam Cunningham (Hunger).

Elizabeth Berrington (The Dinner Party) plays Miller's downtrodden spouse and Frances Barber (Funland) is Paddy's hard working and courageous wife, Lizzie.

Anna Friel will star as Dee, a single mother who is trying to do right by her sons against the odds, opposite Daniel Mays (Rehab) in episode two.

The role of Dee marks Friel's return to Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ One for the first time since June 2002 in Fields Of Gold.

David Bradley (the Harry Potter films) also features in the same episode, which has been written by Jimmy McGovern and Jan McVerry.

Jonas Armstrong will also be taking a starring role in The Street III, his first since his success as Robin Hood.

He will play a discharged soldier who returns home after suffering life changing facial disfigurement in Afghanistan.

Siobhan Finneran (Apparitions) and Ian Pulston Davies (Tess Of The D'Urbervilles) will play his parents.

There is also a poignant episode about an alcoholic parent who faces up to his past wrongs as well as a timely story about a racist chef, who falls in love with a Polish neighbour and comes to see the error of his ways.

Executive producer of The Street III, Sita Williams, says: "Each year we wonder whether we are going to be able to find six more stories that Jimmy is passionate to tell and we are thrilled to say we have.
