Get some Headroom and unwind your mind

Finding the answers at bbc.co.uk/headroom

The site will gradually build during the two-year campaign, aiming to provide the internet's most fulsome and comprehensive resource on issues of mental health and being. When it launches in May 2008, the site's main features will include:

Μύ

Ruby's Room: A three-minute weekly programme hosted exclusively on the web. Every week Ruby will invite viewers to email her with their problems or experiences on a particular mental health and wellbeing topic. Her opening episode will focus on stress, but future episodes will be decided by the contents of Ruby's inbox. During the programmes, Ruby will interview experts, suggest simple, practical ways of dealing with the week's hot topic and may even visit her viewers to talk to them face to face about the problems they face and need help with.

Μύ

Wellbeing Guides: Kathy Sykes presents four short films exclusively for Headroom. The first is a general film about wellbeing and the importance of taking care of mental health alongside physical health. There are then more specific films covering stress, anxiety and depression. More films will be introduced during the course of the two year campaign.

Μύ

The Mind Spa: The Mind Spa is a suite of interactive tools with which individuals can explore areas of their lives that can affect mood and wellbeing by answering questions and completing short activities. The zones have been developed by Peter Kinderman, Professor of Clinical Psychology at the University of Liverpool.

Μύ

Guests entering the Mind Spa will be asked to complete an initial assessment called "How do you feel?" This will be the starting point and provides the basis for informing the questions in later zones.

Μύ

This zone will examine overall mood and will aim to identify areas in the user's life which they could benefit from taking positive steps to improve.

Μύ

Following that there are five wellbeing zones to work through. The zones are:

Μύ

Mood: will identify symptoms related to depression and anxiety, two of the most common mental health conditions.

Μύ

Drink: will invite users to fill out a drinks calendar in which they record their alcohol intake over the past week, which will be compared to established measures of healthy alcohol consumption.

Μύ

Food and Fitness: will invite users to fill out a calendar with all the physical activity and the food they have eaten over the past week, examining the user's attitudes to food and the amount of exercise they do through a series of multiple choice questions.

Μύ

Self-esteem: will examine how people regard themselves and how they think other people view them. The assessment will use a combination of word clouds and questions and will provide some psychological context on how self-image affects our mental wellbeing and how it can be affected by conditions such as compulsive behaviours and depression.

Μύ

Social life: is designed to assess the level and nature of an individual's social contacts and relationships, it will invite users to fill out a calendar with all social contact in the past week in the following contexts – work, education, volunteering, arts and culture, faith and meaning, family and community, public services.

Μύ

Once each zone is completed, the results will be explained and users can then register for a personal life coach plan which will show recommended actions based on the individual's results.

Μύ

Most of the recommendations are straightforward, like getting in touch with an old friend or taking a regular 20-minute walk, but they can make a surprising difference to how good you feel!

Μύ
