Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Children in Need

This year's Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Children in Need Appeal is on Friday 16 November 2007. The live television show, and the fundraising activities which take place in the days and weeks leading up to it, all combine to create a national event, which involves thousands, entertains millions and raises awareness of some of the issues facing children in the UK today.

Μύ

In 2006, the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Children in Need Appeal raised over Β£33million and for every penny donated to the charity, a penny will go directly to a project helping disadvantaged children in the UK.

Μύ

Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Children in Need are able to make this promise because the charity uses its investment income to cover all operational costs.

Μύ

Every year, thanks to public donations and the amazing efforts of fundraisers, schools, businesses and corporate partners, the charity is able to provide support to thousands of youngsters aged 18 and under.

Μύ

Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Children in Need provide this support in the form of grants to organisations working with children who have mental, physical or sensory disabilities; behavioural or psychological disorders; are living in poverty or situations of deprivation; or suffering through distress, abuse or neglect.

Μύ

The size and scale of the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Children in Need Appeal means that grants can be given to hundreds of different organisations, some of which are very small and don't have the resources to fundraise for themselves.

Μύ

The charity operates all year round, not just the months leading up to appeal night, and staff around the UK process thousands of applications for funding.

Μύ

Every year the funding requests exceed the amount of money raised so careful assessments of all applications are made to ensure that grants are targeted on areas of real need.

Μύ

Voluntary committee members, based in each region, draw on their expertise and local knowledge to advise the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Children in Need board of Trustees, which projects should receive grants and funds are allocated geographically to ensure that all corners of the UK get a share of the money raised.

Μύ

The grants range widely in size and scope – from £200 to pay for bean bags and toys in a playgroup for children with mental health problems, to a two-year grant of £1,750,000 given to the Frank Buttle Trust – but all applications are considered carefully and the success of each project is monitored to make sure funds are spent appropriately.

Μύ

The Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Children in Need Appeal is a registered charity number 802052 and is constituted as a company limited by guarantee, registered number 4723022.
