Part of Â鶹ԼÅÄ Scotland's contribution to the Highland 2007 season, Samhradh 's na Srathan (A Summer In The Straths) follows Essie Stewart – one of the last people to have taken part in the traditional summer walking of the travelling families.

Ìý

Born at Edderton, Essie was adopted and raised by the well known story-teller Ailidh Dall Stewart and his wife on the outskirts of Lairg. Each year, horses were hitched to wagons to carry travellers hundreds of miles through Scotland's northernmost hills and glens and along the spectacular coastlines of Sutherland. Accompanied by fellow walkers from the area, Essie retraces these journeys, reflecting on a forgotten heritage.

The programme also draws on archive recordings collected among the travelling people in the Fifties by the late Hamish Henderson who forged a particular bond with Essie's family, recording numerous tales, songs and anecdotes from her grandfather. Gaelic with English subtitles.

Shinty

Ìý

Â鶹ԼÅÄ Scotland will cover the three key dates in the shinty calendar as part of a considerably-enhanced television commitment to one of Scotland's indigenous sports.

Ìý

Whereas in the past only highlights of the main shinty events were shown, Â鶹ԼÅÄ Scotland will now offer live coverage of each major occasion. The live coverage starts with 100th Camanachd Cup Final from Bught Park in Inverness on 22 September, a key date not just in shinty but also in the Highland 2007 calendar. And, the night before the final, there is Warrior People – A Camanachd Century – a special documentary covering the history of shinty's most prestigious prize.

On 13 October cameras move to Fort William for live coverage of the shinty/hurling international between Scotland and Ireland, where the Scots will be hoping to follow up last year's stunning triumph at Croke Park in Dublin. Then, on 24 November, Â鶹ԼÅÄ Scotland returns to Inverness for live coverage of the Marine Harvest Festival of Shinty, including the showcase North vs South match. All in all this represents a strong commitment to a sport which is an important part of Scottish and Highland culture.

Â鶹ԼÅÄ Scotland will once again bring all the excitement of the RBS Six Nations Championship to Scottish viewers and listeners in the spring of 2008.

Scotland's home matches at Murrayfield are against France (February 3) and England (March 8) with the away fixtures in Wales (February 9), Ireland (February 23) and Italy (March 15).

There will be full live coverage and expert analysis of every Scotland game plus highlights and comment from all the other international matches.

The helicopter doctors and paramedics of the Great North Air Ambulance (GNAA) have just four minutes to scramble and get into the air when the hotline rings. Known locally as the Angels of the North, the team treat some of the worst trauma cases over an 8,000 square mile patch stretching from the Lake District across to Newcastle and up to the Borders.

Responding to 1,500 call-outs every year, the three heli-crews frequently have to battle against severe weather conditions, wild terrain and fading light to reach their patients in time. Cases range from stabbings, car crashes and horse-riding falls to mountain rescues, heart attacks and major industrial and agricultural accidents including the occasional bull goring.

Shot against the stunning backdrop of the Pennines and the Lake District, eight-part documentary series Sky Medics gained unique access to the GNAA. It follows the service's three helicopters over a busy four-month period, giving an insight into a remarkable community of ordinary people with extraordinary stories to tell.

One-off documentary, Soitheach Nan Daoine (The Ship Of The People) explores a different angle on the historical stories of human trafficking.

Ìý

The illegal shipment of human cargo stolen from the Bays of Harris and Skye are stories that have entered Gaelic folklore – stories in which people were spirited away to the American slave trade in the mid-1700s by evil ships that preyed on the remote coastlines of North West Scotland. Soitheach Nan Daoine questions whether it was fact or mere myth.

To illustrate the changing face of the virus, Stephen meets up with an HIV-positive grandmother, a 16-year-old schoolgirl who has had HIV since birth and HIV positive couples who have given birth to HIV-negative children.

A daring attempt by 24-year-old Scotsman Mark Beaumont to break the record for cycling around the world is being captured from start to finish for Â鶹ԼÅÄ Scotland's documentary strand Storyline.

Ìý

The cameras were there in Paris in early August as his adventure began and will catch up with him intermittently while Mark himself will film his efforts in between times as he cycles through 20 countries.

His punishing schedule is to cover at least 100 miles a day with 14 days on, one day off, to achieve his target of cycling the world in 210 days – almost ten weeks faster than the current record.

Against a backdrop of the Highlands, Transatlantic Sessions 3 brings together the best of Nashville, Ireland and Scotland to perform what has been called "the greatest back porch shows ever".

The first programme combines Paul Brady remembering Louisiana, Karen Matheson with some beautiful Gaelic singing and American star Joan Osborne making her UK television debut.

Performances later in the series include a piping duet from Scotland's Fred Morrison and Ireland's Michael McGoldrick and Paul Brady performing alongside chanteuses Eddi Reader and Karen Matheson.

Music co-directors on the series, which is produced by Pelicula Films Ltd, are Jerry Douglas, who has worked with Nashville's greatest names, and Scotland and Shetland's own fiddle virtuoso Aly Bain MBE.

Following the death of drama teacher Izzie Redpath, Waterloo Road is under the media spotlight as it opens its doors for a new term. Head teacher Jack Rimmer is on a mission to embrace inclusion at the school. However, some pupils seem to be more included than others, much to the annoyance of new deputy head Eddie Lawson.

As well as a host of new pupils, there are also some fresh faces in the staff room. New drama teacher Matt Wilding plans to grab the headlines with the school's first musical, and work-shy Grantly is delighted to have rookie Jasmine Koreshi to foist his dirty work upon. Meanwhile, Tom has his hands full playing single dad to two teenage girls and when caring but inept Steph Haydock is promoted to head of pastoral care, it can only spell trouble.
