From Helike in Greece to Kobe in Japan and from mega quakes to moon quakes, 10 Things You Didn't Know About Earthquakes discovers how these often catastrophic events are behind everything from the rise and fall of civilisations to changes in religious belief, architecture and the global economy.

The programme also looks at the science of earthquake prediction and what the future holds in store for earthquake prone cities like Tokyo and Istanbul.

The Adventure Show

From under the water of Scapa Flow with the Orkney Triathlon, to the top of Britain's highest mountain, Ben Nevis, and its annual race, The Adventure Show covers all the action – and much more besides.

Presented by Dougie Vipond, with able assistance from technical guru Duncan McCallum, the series is at the heart of Scotland's adventure action – be it the World Cup Mountain Bike Championships at Fort William, windsurfing at the Tiree Wave Classic, or celebrating the 40th anniversary of the original Mountain Marathon in the Scottish Borders.

The programme takes time out to explore Scotland's wild places with Britain's best-known hill walker, Cameron McNeish, while resident gear expert Chris Townsend makes viewers' money go further with his in-depth reviews. The Adventure Show also gets up close and personal with the best of the nation's wildlife.

Examining lifestyles, pastimes and events connected with the sea, Air Bhàrr Nan Tonn (On The Crest Of The Waves) comes from a different location around Scotland each week.

Ìý

Taking a look at the changing relationship between coastal communities and the sea, the six-part series explores all the ways in which people "mess about on the water" as well as looking at the new and the old ways in which the sea contributes to the economy.

Presented by Iain MacInnes and Shona MacLellan, among the ports-of-call for this new series are Shetland, Ballycastle, Arbroath and Southampton. Air Bhàrr Nan Tonn is a MNE TV production for Â鶹ԼÅÄ Scotland.

Alladale
Â鶹ԼÅÄ One Scotland

This observational documentary series follows estate owner Paul Lister as he aims to turn the clock back and re-wild the Highlands to create Europe's first-ever Wilderness Game Reserve. His team at Alladale intends to bring back native Caledonian pine, and, more controversially, the landscape of 500 years ago – alive with wild boar, moose, lynx, wolves and bears.

Â鶹ԼÅÄ Scottish Symphony Orchestra – Britten's Piano Concerto
Â鶹ԼÅÄ Two Scotland

Ìý

Complementing Â鶹ԼÅÄ Scotland's celebrations at Pacific Quay, the Â鶹ԼÅÄ Scottish Symphony Orchestra and Chief Conductor Ilan Volkov open the orchestra's 2007/2008 concert series at City Halls, its home in Glasgow's Merchant City, on the evening of Thursday 20 September.

Scottish pianist Steven Osborne performs Benjamin Britten's colourful piano concerto, and the second half of the evening's entertainment – which will be televised live on Â鶹ԼÅÄ Two Scotland – features one of the most popular works in the repertoire, Gustav Holst's The Planets.

Founded in 1935, the Â鶹ԼÅÄ Scottish Symphony Orchestra appears in Britain's most prestigious events like the Â鶹ԼÅÄ Proms and Edinburgh International Festival, and plays in venues all over Scotland. It has performed in the great cultural centres of Europe, and, in recent years, has toured in China, the USA and South America. The majority of its performances are broadcast on Â鶹ԼÅÄ Radio and Television.

Blair Atholl Horse Trials
Â鶹ԼÅÄ Two Scotland

Ìý

The Blair Atholl Horse Trials is an annual three-day event which provides a comprehensive test of all-round ability for horse and rider, against the spectacular backdrop of Blair Atholl Castle and the beautiful Perthshire hills.

Ìý

Â鶹ԼÅÄ Scotland will, once again, present highlights of the three disciplines – dressage, cross country and show jumping – which, over one weekend in August, attract more than 40,000 spectators and 1,000 horses and ponies.

HRH The Princess Royal attended the final day of the this year's trials, and Olympic Gold Medallist Rhona Martin set the two-legged runners off on the Blair Castle Cross Country Challenge. The weekend also included the European Young Rider Eventing Championships and the Bruadar Country Fair.

Boys Beyond Bars

Earlier this year, Boys Behind Bars took a look behind the scenes at the lives of several young men in Polmont Young Offenders Institute. Their stories highlighted the fear and violence in their lives, their struggle to find a way of coping and their hopes for a better future after ending up behind bars at such a young age.

This one-off documentary catches up with the boys who have been liberated and follows them outside prison. Charting their lives on the outside, the documentary, made by Friel Kean Films, sees if any of them have managed to really change their ways, or whether old habits die hard.

Can any of the boys break the mould? Or are they all still caught up in an endless cycle of crime and punishment?

In the early Eighties a small label named Postcard Records released a series of singles emblazoned with the legend "The Sound Of Young Scotland". Postcard Records went on to champion artists including Orange Juice, Aztec Camera and Altered Images – all of whom trail blazed a trail for homemade Scottish Pop.

Caledonian Dreaming follows the recent history of Scottish pop from the blue-eyed Soul era with the likes of Wet Wet Wet, Deacon Blue and Del Amitri, to the bizarre such as The Jesus And Mary Chain; the very Scottish, including Runrig and the Proclaimers; to the more critically respected bands such as Teenage Fanclub, Travis and Belle And Sebastian. Just why has Scotland produced so many great bands and what do they say about our wee country?

Carrie And David's Popshop

Talented music duo Carrie and David Grant (Fame Academy) are joined by a puppet called Riff the dog in this new, 30-part CBeebies series which uses music to solve problems.

Customers come to Carrie And David's Popshop to ask the team for a song to help solve a situation or deal with a dilemma. With the audience's help at every stage, Carrie and David create a brand-new song for every episode, ultimately performing it in their "zone" at the end of each show.

Each programme features a specially filmed music video showing the customer transported into an imaginative and often humorous solution.

Ìý

Carrie And David's Popshop is about viewers joining in and getting involved, with everybody feeling as though they are creating something great. All songs have been written by Carrie and David and are produced by Steve Welton-Jaimes. The customers are played by child actors.

Castle In The Country

From stunning locations in the heart of Britain's countryside, John Craven and Gloria Hunniford delve into the life of two beautiful, historic houses.

Ìý

This time around, popular daytime series Castle In The Country comes from Floors Castle, in Kelso, and Berkeley Castle in Gloucestershire. Â鶹ԼÅÄ to the Dukes of Roxburghe since 1721, Floors Castle is the programme's gateway to the Scottish Borders – a romantic castle with its roofscape of turrets, pinnacles and cupolas.

The second half of the series comes from the heart of Gloucestershire at the historic Berkeley castle. Â鶹ԼÅÄ to the Berkeley family for almost 900 years, the castle is the oldest building in the country to be inhabited by the same family who built it.

Providing expert opinion on antiques will be Lars Tharp, Paul Atterbury and Rupert Maas, while chefs Rachel Allen and Matt Tebbutt tempt taste buds. Christine Bleakley takes on the role of roving reporter.

From mountain biking to fencing, Tae Kwon Do to disability athletics, Class Of 2012 will profile a selection of these young talents and ask what it takes, both mentally and physically, to be an Olympic standard athlete.

The show draws on a team of expert regulars, including Mark Kermode providing his breakdown of the week's movie releases, as well as a weekly exclusive performance from acts such as The Aliens, Manic Street Preachers and Regina Spektor.

The Culture Show is also unique in the way it covers the whole country's cultural activity. The weekly show is a "dual site" production, meaning alternating shows come from London and Glasgow based teams.
