Mother's Wardrobe by Ann Colton

Clothes parade in the wardrobe
Decades fight for revival in the material world
Brazen jackets flap as the door opens displaying
Youthful quotes, overacted heartache
And several mistakes.

Wranglers scuff to 'Whisky in The Jar'
And disco beads fan the heat.
Maternity dresses fluffed and tainted
Wave from baubbled cardigans
Whilst dungarees play havoc with 'last Christmas I gave you my heart'.
The pinstripe that made the divorce courts
Projects stamina and strength as teenage anger cradles the baggy jumper
Open armed and adaptable as storms sleep on winter's coat.
