13-year-old ParalympicsGB swimmer Iona Winnifrith wins silver
13-year-old Iona Winnifrith has won a silver medal in the women's SB7 100m breaststroke event at the Paralympics in France.
The teenager is the youngest member of the ParalympicsGB team.
Iona put in a very impressive performance, finishing just seconds behind the leader with a time of one minute and 29.69 seconds.
She was beaten by neutral athlete Mariia Pavlova who set a new world record.
Canadian athlete Tess Routliffe finished in third place.
"Of course I wanted gold, but I am 13-years-old, so I'm pretty young. I'm super happy and proud. I’ve got the 50m [on Saturday] and then I can relax and enjoy it," Iona Winnifrith told Channel 4 following her silver medal win.
She also spoke about the support she's gotten from her fellow ParalympicsGB team-mates.
"They’ve all been supportive of me. It's like a supportive family. Everyone's been together over three weeks and coming here we’ve become like a family, having to live away from home for three weeks is hard."
Iona Winnifrith's silver medal win means ParalympicsGB are now up to a total of 78 medals at Paris 2024.
