Despite all the healthy eating information, we eat about 38,000 tonnes of chips every week. Chip shops are selling more than 250 million meals every year. And Manchester's got some of the best chippies in the country!

To mark National Chip Week (17th – 23rd February 2003), we want you to tell us your favourite chippy. Or even send a photo!

Here's a few good 'uns:

Know a better one? Tell us now

From Anju Sethi in Levenshulme, Manchester
The Battered Cod in Fallowfield. Cant Beat It - thats all i got to say.

From Darren Hughesin Melbourne, Australia
The Cha-sing, Barton road Stretford has to be the best. Any one food that can keep a man alive for 3 years, not eating anywhere else, has to be good stuff. (did put on a bit of weight though!)

From Karen Chapman in Manchester
Whitakers in Cheadle Hulme

From Mr B in Mossley

From Andy Black in Leigh

Kevs Cod Piece in Leigh rocks!

From Vicky in Stockport
The Dolphin in Nth Reddish - great chippy. Although the best fish & chips I have ever had were in Mevagissy in Cornwall while on holiday last year - wish we had one as good as that up North!

From Bob in Manchester
Thompsons Chippy, Victoria Ave, Blackley

From Jeff in Windsor, Canada
The Friary, Wood Street, Middleton.Excellent !!

From Jean Longmuir in Manchester
The New Sunflower in Woodhouse Park, Wythenshawe. Crispy batter, large portions, very fast home delivery. Delicious.

From Nicola in Blackley, Manchester
I think Sue's Chippy on Grange Park Road Blackley, has to be the best. Her fish are huge, and one portion of chips would feed a family of four. She is very generous with her portions, and very friendly.

From Miss Demeaner in Brinnington
The chippie in the arcade in Brinnington - Indian service after 5pm - regular service is just excellent and the fish is just divine at Β£1.75 a pop! Doesn't look much like anything to look at, but there you go, it's not looks that count :-D

From J Maloney in Manchester
I work int he city centre of Manchester and I go to a Cafe/resturant called "Essy's" they do chips (to eat in or takeaway) they are really nice and are not expensive. The staff are friendly and I would recommend you try it!

From Dave Brunton in Stockport
The Dolphin, nr Bulls Head, Nth Reddish. This has got to be the best chippy around by a long way!

From SusiNerici in Whitefield
Armstrongs. Prestwich. Fabulous batter on the fish and great chips. Such large portions as well!

From Rob in Manchester
Although I am from Manchester and have eaten from my share of chippies the best battered sausage, chips, curry sauce and hollands m+p pie has to come from the other side of the Peninnies - Crown Fisheries, Hebden Bridge, W Yorks... Sorry!

From Therese in Stockport
HO WAH - Chinese t/away, Didsbury. Sloppiest juiciest chips - pour them down thy throat, followed by a deep fat fried piece of cod, not forgetting the blob of ketchup sliding on the edge of the paper ...mmm...delicious.

From Anon
Thompson - Victoria Avenue, Blackley The taste speaks for itself!

From Julian Winstanley in Stockport
Can't comment on the Fish as I don't eat Fish, but The Friar Tuck on Stockport Road (A560) in Cheadle Heath, Stockport has consistently good chips, cooked correctly and served with a smile

From Ian Winterbottom in Lees
Village Chippy, West street, Lees, Oldham - Just a little back street chippy, but its the best i've ever been in.
