Gritty cop drama starring Stanley Baker and Donald Pleasence.
A Taste of Honey (1961)
Starring Rita Tushingham and Dora Bryan.

A Taste of Honey really is suberb. It stars
Rita Tushingham as a girl who gets pregnant with a black sailor. When
her scatterbrained mum (Dora Bryan) leaves to settle down with young
lover, she sets up house with a young gay man. Northwest landmarks
like Manchester Town Hall, the Blackpool piers, Stockport parish church
and the Manchester Ship Canal all feature in this taboo-breaking social
drama.
Peter Williams in leigh says:
I was actually in the film but only sat on the top deck of a bus but
there were a few other local kids filmed playing in the streets around
Brindle Heath.

and begins an affair with his younger secretary. Some location work
at Old Trafford (Manchester United). This film was Liza Minelli
screen debut and also starred Albert Finney and Billie Whitelaw.

Filming also took place alongside the Manchester Ship Canal at Moore.

Reds (1981)
Warren Beatty's award winning epic. But was it filmed in Manchester?

At least part of Reds was filmed outside the Zion
Centre in Hulme. I think it is the scene where someone is addressing
a crowd from the step[s of what i thinlk is meant to be a building
(courthouse) in Chicago. I remember the producers advertising for
extras in the Moss Side Job Centre.

I think the film where they kindap a City Player was called
something like Superstar and concerned a bungled ransom/kidnap plot
of a black city player called darren(?). they held him hostage in
a flat in Ardwick. I think the film was made by Channel 4.

Resurrection Man (1998)
Starring Peter Nesbit and John Hannah - filmed in Openshaw,
Manchester (at the back of my house!) - about a journalist in seventies
northern ireland - good film - bit gory...

There's Only One Jimmy Grimble
(Directed by John Hay, PathΓ© 2000). A marvellous metaphorical
presentation of the City-United divide in Manchester. Locations
all over the city and, of course, at Maine Road itself.
