It did vaguely cross my mind that taking three four-year-olds to see a play about someone stupid wasn't the wisest thing to do, having encouraged them all not to use that word. But I needn't have worried - it was an enjoyable play and not just for the kids.
It's rare I can say that, having sat through quite a few embarrassing productions for grown-ups in my time.
 The children with me were bright-eyed and entranced throughout the performance...

The small theatre at Warwick Arts Centre was well set out so that even the smallest children got a good view. Because of the size, I also felt more a part of the production.
The show centred on Polly, a bright little girl, who is chased by a wolf.
The wolf was not horribly scary - those with faint-hearted children will be glad to learn.
Polly and the wolf chased each other round an imaginative set made from brightly coloured screens. To illustrate some of the chase scenes, they used small dolls of themselves to run along the top of the screens, in just the same way that children use their own toys to tell imaginary stories.

The children with me were bright-eyed and entranced throughout the performance, which was just over an hour long.
Again, even the length was just right for the three-to-six-year-old target audience.
Polly and the wolf were great improvisers, faking chases and chances to eat Polly's imaginary little sister. Of course, the wolf wasn't really a baddie and he went home hungry.
For the adults, there were musical jokes - when they went to the pet shop, the theme tune to Animal Magic was played. It was over the heads of my party, but as in all the best children's programmes, you need to have a nod to mums and dads.
Warwick Arts Centre is a fine venue to get your children into the magic of theatre. There's a free car park, free cloakroom, a reasonably priced restaurant and magical little shop selling trinkets and a good selection of real pocket monkey marvels. We bought mini whoopee cushions and fab Christmas presents and decorations!
The staff are also all pleasant and helpful, so I shall certainly go again.

The show runs on Saturdays 14 and 21 December, with performances at 10.30am and 2.45pm. Tickets are Β£7.50 (Β£6.50) and Β£5.50 for under 16s.
