Leamington is to get its first regular night dedicated to the artistic development of new performance, live-art and theatre for new and emerging artists in the West Midlands.

Pilot launch

At 7pm on Wednesday, 27 November, the Community Arts Gallery will open its doors to the new night, called Pilot.

Entrance to the event is just 50p to cover administration and publicity.

Pilot is a joint venture between a new local theatre and performance company, The Wrong Crowd, and a collective of Warwick University students called Swinging Man.

The core members of The Wrong Crowd, Simon Day, Ben James and Richard Lyne, graduated from the University of Warwick in 2002.

Pilot is yet another good example of how local people from all backgrounds are using this space to produce events that are important to them and their community.

David Male from the Community Arts Workshop
They all live and work together from their house in North Leamington, having chosen to remain in the town they enjoyed living in as students, rather than relocate to London or Birmingham.

Rhiannon Armstrong, Alexander Parsonage and Katherine Tyler of Swinging Man are all in their second year of study and live in Leamington.

Interested in producing work outside of a University setting, they joined forces with The Wrong Crowd to collaborate together on establishing Pilot.

Pilot will present a diverse selection of work-in-progress performances from new and emerging practitioners in the region. The event aims to provide a space where new work can be developed through audience feedback.

Audience feedback

The process of feedback and criticism is seen as an integral part of the evening itself - so be prepared to voice your views.

The audience will have the chance to let the performers know what they think over a few drinks after the pieces, as well as being invited to use Feedback Machines.

These are installations and devices, created to document the process of feedback and explore how such a task may be approached more creatively.

Pilot is looking for visual, digital or conceptual artists to collaborate on the Feedback Machines in the future. Use the contact details below if you are interested in getting involved.

David Male from the Community Arts Workshop said: "Pilot is yet another good example of how local people from all backgrounds are using this space to produce events that are important to them and their community."

The next performance

Pilot will be held every two months, with pieces developing over time through their interaction with an active and critical audience.

The next event will be held in January and has been provisionally booked for 29 January at 7.30pm at Kelsey's Bar in Leamington.

The deadline for submissions from interested artists and performers is 31 December.
