The medieval Coventry carol was one of the star songs this Christmas played by two of the brass bands in the Coventry Carol Festival for 2002.

The Coventry Carol Festival organised by CV One, is a series of 11 performances from local bands in the city centre which took place every Saturday and late night shopping Wednesday up until Christmas Day 2002.

Mix of traditional and modern
Μύ
The City of Coventry Brass Band kicked the series off on Saturday, 16 November, followed by the Godiva Brass Band on Wednesday, 20 November.

The City of Coventry Brass Band are a ten piece outfit who play a series of traditional Christmas carols as well as more modern Christmas songs such as 'All I Want for Christmas' and 'A Child is Born'.

Godiva Brass are a recently formed brass quintet, featuring E flat bass, double bass, euphonium, baritone and cornet. They played a selection of standard Christmas carols under the Broadgate canopy.

Both bands played the Coventry Carol, a medieval carol written in the city for the Tailors' and Shearmens' pageant in the 1590s which was recently voted number six in a poll of the nation's favourite Christmas carols.

"We have enlisted some of Coventry's best traditional bands to ensure that shoppers are thoroughly entertained throughout late night shopping."
