Brief history of Children In Need

Since 1980, Children in Need has raised over Β£300 million for disadvantaged children living in the UK and will be hoping to break more records this year.
The Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Children in Need Appeal is the most important single event in the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ calendar and the only occasion when the whole of the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ joins together in support of a single project - on television, radio and online.
The Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ's first broadcast appeal for children took place in 1927, in the form of a five minute radio broadcast on Christmas Day.
It raised around Β£1,143 - the equivalent of about Β£27,150 today.

Children in Need aims to improve the lives and prospects of children and young people living in the UK who have experienced hardship, difficulties or disadvantages of some kind.
Each year the charity provides practical and lasting support to thousands of under-18s.
Help is offered to anyone that needs it, including those with disabilities or psychological disorders, and those who have encountered serious illness, abuse, poverty or neglect.
In order to do this the charity allocates grants to registered charities or voluntary and community groups focussed on making a positive difference to children's lives.
