Warwick Castle will be recreating the extremes of every day middle age life - with all the gory details - in a fun way from 15 February - 2 March 2003.

The hideous habits, deadly hobbies, disgusting stenches and foul food that made the middle ages one of the grossest times in history will be conjured up for visitors to the castle in a no holds barred mediaeval gross out!

Through live action and multi sensory re-dispalys, the sights, smells and touches of the time will be unleashed and guests will be given the chance to get a real sense of just how different - and often down right dirty - everyday life was when Warwick Castle was at the peak of its power.

Gongs & Pongs

For those brave enough to get close, the authentically stinking and pestilent gong farmer will share the highs and lows of life as a castle toilet cleaner.

Kids will get the chance to come face to face with the waste this manure shifting human powerhouse would have shoveled in a day - and nose to nose with the resulting pong.

Saw-Happy Surgeon

Visitors also get the chance to go inside the surgeon's tent to meet leeches and to find out about some of the many medical uses for urine and poo.

Your visit will make you realise why the Medieval people that made it to adulthood would probably have prayed not to need the services of the surgeon, who might well have been the local barber, dentist and chemist too!

Just to make the experience even more realistic, the awful oozing nastiness of mediaeval battle wounds will also be recreated by the wonders of modern film make-up.

Visitors can check out just how much damage mediaeval weapons inflicted by having their very own battle wound created by the resident make up artist.

Pigs' Bladders & Calves' Feet

ΜύRe-enactment of William Webb EllisοΏ½ first Rugby game at Rugby School
Boys recreating early rugby - a development on the pig bladder game
As well as lots of germs, dirt and disease, people in the middle ages had some very strange food and games too.

Over at the cook out, the secrets of the mediaeval kitchen will be revealed. Some of the ingredients of the medieval menu - included sheep's feet and jellied soup made of calves' feet - will be on view to delight or repel modern senses.

In the middle ages nothing was wasted, which is why if the pig's bladder wasn't cooked up for Sunday lunch it was used to play a early form of football!
