What do you do if you have a world class attraction, but you need to keep getting the locals in through the doors as well?
Warwick Castle had a cunning plan, and unlike TV's Baldrick, it didn't involve a turnip.
This half term the castle's attractions are more like severed arms and the contents of his lordship's toilet.
Sounds gross? Well that's what Gross Out is all about. And it's compulsive viewing for anyone of infant and junior school age. It's compulsive and repulsive.

Warwick Castle is a magnificent venue and never more so on the crisp and incredibly sunny day we were there.
Outside the walls were the Warwick bowmen, a trained troupe of archers - who're always interesting, taking time between shows to tell you about how their arrows and longbows are made.
Inside the walls was the fare of medieval life. The cooks tent, complete with pig's head, tongue and innards (vegetarians, view from a distance).
There was face painting with a difference - gory wounds, cuts and grazes dripping blood. And Amos the toilet cleaner, a man at one with his job - revolting.

And there was a wonderful apothecary, where there was nothing the man didn't know about cures, although many of them involved leeches or maggots. Leeches of course, are now back in fashion, the castle got their live ones from a modern medical supplier.
And, after seeing the arrows shot outside, we were given the gory explanations of how to remove one from your arm or chest, without the aid of anaesthetic.
The ancient castle at Warwick has towers, bucketsful of history, permanent waxwork exhibitions and of course the torture chamber and dungeon - and there's even a bit of covert education going on too.
Children and children at heart couldn't wish for anything more.
