Precious Lives

To celebrate its silver anniversary, Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Cornwall announced its support for the Children's Hospice South West's Precious Lives Appeal. Since its launch in January 2008, listeners have helped to raise Β£250,000 for the charity. Read our features.

Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio Cornwall's support for the Precious Lives campaign was launched by asking people in Cornwall to donate Β£1 towards the project that will build a hospice in Cornwall caring for life limited children and their families.Μύ

The money raised so far is: Β£250,000

Co-ordinating the project, Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Cornwall's Daphne Skinnard said, "In the past we have seen how generous the people of Cornwall are and we know how important this facility will be for the families who have to leave the County for treatment, care and respite.ΜύWe hope you'll join us in watching the Precious Lives Appeal turn from a dream into reality".

At present families caring for sick children can only receive respite, palliative and terminal care at Little Bridge House in North Devon, which is the only hospice for children in the region.

Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ staff are throwing themselves behind the Appeal as part of the station’s 25th birthday celebrations with fundraising antics including a coastal bike ride.Μύ

This isn’t the first time Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Cornwall has put its weight behind a Cornish campaign; in 2001 the station raised Β£600,000 towards the Sunrise Appeal. The Royal Mail sorting office in Truro has been extremely helpful in making it possible for Β£1 coins to be sent without ruining their machines.ΜύTheir involvement in this exciting appeal is welcomed.

"We have learnt lessons since the last time, little did we know how generous young and old would be.ΜύWe are hoping this will be the same and that we’ll get the Precious Lives Appeal off to a great start," said Daphne Skinnard.
