Toasting future success - The Caradon Ladies

Caradon Ladies 4

The Caradon Ladies are among the many teams taking part in the season gig rowing finale in Newquay. Nicola Davey from Caradon Ladies has been keeping a diary in the lead up to the event.

This week has been pretty relaxed really.Ìý The calm before the storm!Ìý

Leanne and Naomi from the Caradon crew

We had a crew meal on Monday (it was Leanne's turn to be hostess), our traditional 'Guinness Night' in the Sailing Club on Tuesday and a lovely meal with all the Caradon ladies on Wednesday.

We've been down at the river too washing the Ann Glanville out ready for use at the weekend (well the other girls did, I was out coxswaining – sorry girls). They did a great job, she's clean and shiny, and her and the kit are loaded up and ready to go.Ìý So that just leaves Friday evening to get all our own kit sorted and our food and drinks prepared…

At the Newquay Championships you don't row your own boats.ÌýThe CPGA tries to make the racing as fair as possible by borrowing evenly matched gigs to be raced over the weekend (we are loaning the Ann Glanville).

After each round the CPGA officials hold a draw at which your heat and boat, and berth is picked.Ìý For the first round we've been drawn in heat 11 in the Rhos, one of Roseland’s gigs.ÌýOur B crew is in Heat 3 also in the Rhos and our C's are just before us in Heat 9 in Dasher (Padstow).Ìý I’d like to wish all our crews the very best of luck.

The nerves are being held at bay (just about), and I'm actually really looking forward to it.ÌýI always feel better after our first race so I'm very much looking forward to getting out on the water on Saturday morning.ÌýIt even looks like the weather might be on our side (for once)…

Well…that's it! We've spent countless hours out on the water putting in the training. All our hard work during the season, training and racing, boils down to this weekend.

We're ready...I'll let you know how we get on!

Good luck to all the teams taking part
