Find out how their training programme is going with Nicola's online diary... This weekend saw the last 'friendly' regatta of the season run by Roseland Gig Club at St Mawes.Μύ The club were able to change venues at the last moment to accommodate the huge number of clubs who wanted to attend.Μύ The event was so popular because it was everyone's last chance to race before the championships.Μύ We were missing two crew members this weekend so Charlotte Annear from our Ladies B crew and Ros Wilkins from our Ladies C crew took up the vacant positions.  Taking to the water We had another great race finishing in 2nd place behind Falmouth.ΜύIt was the Padstow Ladies who finished in 3rd place after a closely fought battle with the crew from Mounts Bay.ΜύThe course was about the same length as the Newquay course so it was good training for next weekend.Μύ We had hardly managed to catch our breath when we were informed that the race order had changed and that Leanne, Tash & myself had to row the mixed race straight away.ΜύIt was a close race, and we reached the first mark neck and neck with Falmouth, but they were on the inside so got given the mark over us and we just couldn't catch them on the way home.ΜύThe Ladies B crew also had a great result finishing in 3rd place. So…that's it – no more racing, only the Championships to go – very scary indeed.Μύ Training has been going well and we've had good results all season, we just have to give it our best shot and see how we fair at the weekend.Μύ Incorporated into training this week will be an opportunity to practice 'just in case', things like what to do if one of us breaks or looses and oar or breaks a thole pin mid race.Μύ  Nicola enjoys a traditional Guinness Exercises like this are very valuable but also very amusing – as someone (usually me) ends up throwing an oar over the side of the boat instead of changing their pin. We've got our Caradon Ladies meal this week, so we're all off out to a new Chinese restaurant in the town on Wednesday evening. This week will also see 'Guinness night'.ΜύIt has become a bit of a tradition in our club to have a Guinness after the last training session before a major competition.Μύ The mens crews started the tradition a good few years ago, but all the crews take part now despite the fact that most of the girls don't even like Guinness!Μύ I'll check back later in the week to tell you how the training, food and Guinness went (and to tell you how nervous I'm feeling)… Read earlier diaries: last updated: 03/09/07 SEE ALSOYou are in: Cornwall > Gig Rowing > Caradon Ladies Diary 3
