Supporting the creative sector

We are committed to supporting the creative health of the UK production sector

Contacts

To attract and entertain our audiences we rely on a vibrant and diverse production sector right across the UK. On this page you’ll find information about the support we offer companies and how to access it including funds and useful contacts.

Support for companies based in the nations and regions

We believe it’s vital the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ develops ideas and produces programmes with a rich range of stories and perspectives from across all four Nations, and that companies in the Nations and regions play a vital role in creating the next generation of on and off-screen talent. We have named genre commissioners based in, or responsible for a relevant Nation or English regions and a range of other packages to help stimulate and grow productions across the UK. Find out more including who to contact on the support for indies and talent in the Nations and English regions page.

Support for small independent producers

Small independent producers are vital to the creative economy of the UK, building the next generation of talent and producing programmes with a rich range of stories and perspectives from across all four Nations. To ensure they thrive, we have a package of support including the Small Indie Fund, for indies with strong creative potential and turnovers of less than Β£10million. This is available for producers working with Network TV commissioning teams across drama, comedy, children's, entertainment, factual, daytime and film. Support is based on the strength of a producers creative potential and their ability to deliver to our strategy. It is granted on a company by company basis.

We also hold events for new companies without existing relationships with the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ, to introduce them to the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ and commissioning teams. Companies without an existing commissioning contact who want more information should contact Lucy Willmore in the TV Commissioning Supply team, or find further support contacts below.

Support for diversity and diverse-led companies

The Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ has pledged that we will hardwire diversity into everything we do, both internally and for all those who make programmes for us. We have invested in a number of schemes, partnerships and resources to help production companies meet these expectations.

Visit the Diversity area for further information about our strategy and commitments along with useful resources for producers.

The diverse talent development fund

The Β£2million diverse talent development fund is ring-fenced to develop and accelerate projects with diverse content or talent that need exceptional extra support.

Support for sustainable production

It is a priority for us to reduce our environmental impact across content creation by encouraging the production community to move to more sustainable ways of working.

We have a continuing collaboration with the Bafta-led Albert consortium to share and promote sustainable production tools and free resources to help production companies track and reduce their environmental impact. We partner with other broadcasters and organisations to share best practice, promote efficiency and stimulate demand for greener products and services.

Find out more about how we can support you along with contacts and resources in our sustainability area.

Supporting producers with production skills gaps

The Production Management Skills Fund has been created in partnership with other UK broadcaster to address the current shortage in production management skills facing the UK TV industry. The fund aims to ease the short-term strain in production management and help build a wider talent pool for the future.

Our partnerships to support the industry

We are proud to partner with other specialists in the sector to further support ideas, talent, skills and businesses across the UK. We do so where our ambitions and values align, and where there are clear strategic benefits, outcomes and value for money.

How we choose which companies to support - our strategic objectives

Supporting UK creativity is part of our DNA, so where there is clear benefit to our public service objectives we can offer additional support to production companies. This investment is based on creative merit and tailored to the individual genre, business need and level of strategic priority. They are a contribution to the additional costs associated with change or sustainability, rather than replacing production budgets.

Funding is accessible through the relevant genre head of business, on the recommendation of a commissioning editor.

Our strategic objectives include:

  • To support the supply of distinctive, British ideas to the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ from across the UK
  • To strengthen production ecologies, talent and the creative pipeline outside London
  • To maintain a range of supply in the UK enabling smaller producers to survive and grow
  • To strengthen progress on diversity and representation both on and off screen
  • To strengthen progress towards environmentally sustainable production in the UK

Please see the sections on this page to find out about the support we can offer companies who can deliver to our objectives.
