The diverse talent development fund

Helping production companies develop diverse talent, on and off-screen

The diverse talent development fund ring-fences Β£2.1 million of TV development spend every year to help support and accelerate projects that need exceptional extra funding, beyond the usual production budget.

The fund supports production companies to develop diverse on and off-screen talent, including writers, actors, presenters and contributors, through targeted initiatives.

We also use the fund for specific targeted Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ schemes such as Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Elevate, some of our comedy bursaries, and the Writersroom Writers Access Group.

There is no separate or formal application process for the fund and it is only available for commissioned programmes. Allocation is considered on the recommendation of a commissioner, after discussions with producers during the normal commissioning conversation. Investment decisions take into account the legacy benefit of additional investment for future series, to drive change in the sector, or build sustainable diverse talent development in the Nations and Regions.

We therefore advise producers to include information in their programme where they consider additional funding is needed. We may also approach key returning series ourselves where we identify a strategic benefit for use of the fund, for instance in the Nations and English regions.

In 2023/23 the fund supported 122 production titles including The Responder, Blue Lights, Doctor Who, Such Brave Girls, David & Jay’s Touring Toolshed, Bridge of Lies, Have I Got News For You, Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔs Under the Hammer, Man Like Mobeen and Juice.

Please note, separate diversity funds are run by Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio and Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Children's.
