Radio 3 Network Strategy
Cultural programming is a central part of Radio 3’s mission.
- We believe classical music is for everyone. We aim to create an inclusive, welcoming space for all listeners that brings people together through shared experience and understanding, providing a place of inspiration, and a means to navigate a complex world.
- We pride ourselves on being a commissioner of distinctive classical music programmes, shining a new light on well-loved artistic works and investing in new talent.
- We are one of the most significant commissioners of contemporary classical music anywhere in the world and the biggest broadcaster of live classical concerts including the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Proms.
Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio 3 is one of the world’s most significant commissioners of new music. We commission more than 30 pieces of new music every year from a wide and diverse array of composers ranging from the leading international composers of the day to those just starting out on their career. There are many ways to get your compositions heard on the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ including through the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Introducing scheme and Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Young Composer.
As well as these schemes Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio 3 welcomes new music commission proposals from composers who have previously had a work performed by a professional group. Submissions for a commission will be considered by a panel made up of representatives from the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Proms, the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Orchestras and Choirs and Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio 3 on a quarterly basis. If you are a composer or publisher who would like to make a proposal for a commission please contact david.ireland@bbc.co.uk by email. Please do not send scores or sound files initially.
Ad hoc commissions
We welcome ad hoc proposals from established programme makers throughout the year. For more information please contact David Ireland.
