Heres another question for you:
Its been 15 years since the death of Ayrton Senna at Imola to the date. The question really is; Will Formula 1 ever go back to Imola? They seem to have gone with Monza instead and dont have any current plans to return if Im correct.

I agree Spa must be one of the most loved tracks of all time. I really hope they dont make anymore unnecessary changes to it; theyll just end up ruining it.

Just to let you know, I do appreciate what Bernie has done, ofcourse I do, hes transformed the sport into a global entity, a massive brand if you like. But I do think he seems to be greedy, basically not having canada this year just because of money, he's even threatening the race of his own country not to happen, and thanks to him we have massive entry fees for new teams which simply put them off and the most wins system he is so keen on introducing, which I see as ridiculous. the key word there was 'becoming' seeing I personally think he looks like he might undo all his hard work. also, Red so isnt his colour when it comes to blazers! :D

Antree saw the two best drivers in the world perform, Fangio and Moss.
The circuit was good for the spectator, having permanent grandstands not scaffolding

Senna was one of a kind. There hasn't been anyone since this day 15 years ago to match him for a sheer natural talent for racing. Anyone who remembers the days of Prost v Senna knows hat will never be repeated. Today it's all about the car, not the driver. And that is what Senna was ......... A Pure racing DRIVER!!!

Do you think that if Formula 1 has beed financially capped next year, then the the promoters etc. should follow suit and radically reduce the costs on entrance fees to F1 races by the same percentage?

I know that you have been reconised for your contribution to the motor industry in the past, but it would be great if the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ renewed this tribute, as i am sure that thousands of people all over the world would agree that it is more than well deserved, especially as there is a great deal on British interest in F1 today.

In the week of the anniversary of the great Ayrton Senna's death, I am sure like me your thoughts have been about his life and times and the great racing driver that he was.

I don't want to ask you the predictable question of do you think he was the greatest F1 driver as so many others have done. Rather than that I would like to ask you what exactly was it about Senna that you think made him a truly exceptional Formula One racing driver? Why was he so much better than others of his time?

If Schumacher, Hamilton and Alonso start from the back of the grid why is it that you know for sure that both Schumacher and Hamilton will overtake the grid and end up in podium whereas Alonso will get stuck behind cars? What is the difference? thanks

Dear Murray, for years I have been to Grand Prix's, can you tell me why drivers rev their enginess to near limits in the pit lane as they approach their garage, always in practice sessions. is this some sort of pre programmed management system. the reason i noticed this was that david coulthard always seemed to do this as he passed the mclaren garage , when he was driving for red bull. is it necessary or a ploy to disrupt the mclaren routine. thanks Ian

Now the FIA have codified the 'Winner Takes All' WDC (Article 6.1 of the 2010 F1 Sporting Regs) without even highlighting it as a change (and apparently without many members of the media noticing) how do you think that is going to impact on the 2010 season? Especially since Massa's win at Interlagos last year would have won him the championship instead of Lewis (who finished with only 5 wins to Massa's 6). Does it make catching up easier (i.e. 3 wins is a smaller gap than 30 points) or does it make the dominance of a single driver more likely?

My understanding is that it's a kinetic energy recovery system, however this doesn't see to be the case with this years F1 cars which seems to be more like a restricted boost system.

Murray, I need to settle a pub argument.
I think that with your vast experience of Formula One, that you must be the record holder for the highest number of Grand Prix actually attended.
Do you know if this is the case, and if not who holds that record.

If modern sports cars have low profile tyres, why do F1 cars have such small wheels, and large profile tyres - who has got it wrong?

I'm going to analyse Murray's answers
1. You didn't really add that much to this debate as we won't know anything until next year's schedule comes out so you would have been better off answering a different question.
2. Spot on with Spa although, if it were possible I would love to see Laguna Seca become an F1 track.
3. I feel as if you are just pandering to McClaren and Hamilton here. A lot of drivers have come out and said that Lewis does not have a nice personality. While he has worked his way up through the various classes he has ALWAYS been backed by McClaren, providing him with the tools required to win races at the various levels. So in that respect he has been gifted a seat in a championship-winning car. Also I think a lot of people see that he has distanced himself from his roots so quickly. Moving away from England and his demenia on screen as well is one of impetulance.
4. I don't think you really got down to this question- 'Ferrari will always come back because they have won more points than anyone else' is like saying Nottingham Forest will win the Champions League again because they have done it before. No Ferrari will win again becuase they have top drivers and will take the restrictions placed upon them and blow them out of water by spending more money than ever.
5. Whilst all the good work Bernie has done for the sport, he seems less coherent each day. Watching some of his interviews it appears that there is some huge cover up, that he has died and been replaced by a malfunctioning android. He is becoming a liability and every person should be judged on what they do now, not on past glories (which you have justified your answer to 4. with). If you have a loyal dog that is old, slowly dying, you don't let it live on miserably, you shoot it. Thats what F1 should do- get rid of Bernie Ecclestone and give someone else a chance to improve the stagnating sport.

Murray, do you think Bernie Ecclestone's deliberately manipulated things so that there won't be a British Grand Prix from next year? According to Richard Williams in the Guardian today, it looks like he awarded it to Donington knowing they couldn't get things done in time, and refuses to give it back to Silverstone. So has he decided that he can get more money from other countries?

And if the British Grand Prix does go, should British race fans care?

I agree about spa its the one i would go to if i had the chance. I have watched the documentrys about Jim Clarke and Graham Hill and wondered if you thought they could be as good as the drivers today.

Seeing that Brawn GP, Toyota and Williams found that they could use a Double-Decker Diffuser and that it generated controversy, could you tell us some of past controversies regarding confuse rules? Did they decide the fate of a entire championship?

I have been following F1 for around 20 years, and I realise that politics will always play a big part. But I am starting to get quite fustrated this year though, it seems there is a constant battle between the teams and the FIA. For example, Ferrari says they are not happy about the budget cap, FIA respond with "we dont need Ferrari".
Are the press giving the impression that the Max Mosley, Bernie Ecclestone and the teams are constantly bickering, or is this just the reality in 2009?

this years brawn car is essentially a well made and expensive car which honda made a lot of time and money making. But do you think this time next year we'll be seeing the same Brawn Supremacy?

Are f1's rules policeable anymore?

I ask this after one of my fellow forum members recently spotted formula one cars testing at his local race track, with a blank livery on the cars and lorries. How can we know F1 teams aren't secretly breaking the testing ban?
Now cars aren't weighed during qualifying, how do we know they aren't running underweight, with weight added before scrutineering?
Will a budget cap really mean anything as the teams will just be very creative with their accounts?

Teams will always try to gain an advantage by bending the rules, whether legally (e.g. double diffusers, mass dampers) or illegally (e.g. liegate, BAR's fuel tank in 05)

No one ever hits the apex of turn 5.
The last chicane is horrible.
There have been problems with racism in the crowd since Lewis arrived. Overtaking opportunities are sparse.
Spain has a great circuit in Valencia.
With all this in mind my question is - 'Do you think Barcelona should continue to host a Grand Prix?'

Could Mazda Laguna Seca Raceway be considered as a Grand Prix Circuit? It would surely be more exciting than many of the circuits currently in use. It has hosted American Le Mans Series and MotoGP recently and has plenty of grandstands, runoff areas and modern infrastructure. The famous Corkscrew should provide an interesting challenge both for engineers and drivers.

Do you think that F1's success masks the other motorsports to the point that worthy drivers and teams do not get the exposure that they deserve? for example, Lots of people have heard of Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button, but few have heard of Andy Priaulx, who is after all a multiple world champion in touring cars. Do you think that F1 could help the other two FIA World championships with promotion, along with local motorsports?

I know that you've always wanted to commentate on snooker, and I would love to see that become a reality, even if it were just for one match. It's a sport that really needs to be injected with some personality, because it doesn't naturally have it like Formula 1 does.
