Discovering the best Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Sport content

Ben Gallop

Head of Sport Interactive

Today, we’re starting to roll out some changes to the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Sport website. I wanted to share a little bit about why we’re doing it, how we’re doing it and what changes you’ll see over the coming weeks and months.

Why?

It’s really simple. We want to give you the best possible experience - no matter where you are or which devices you’re using.

We’ve seen that you are using mobile and tablet devices to access our website more and more - on average people are accessing the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Sport website on two or three different devices. Mobile users have increased by 33% over the last 12 months alone, tablet by 25%. Mobiles and tablets now consistently make up the majority of devices used to access our site throughout the week. At weekends, these devices make up three quarters of traffic to our site.

These are some of the reasons why we are rolling out what is called a ‘responsive site’ to all parts of Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Sport online. This means whether you’re on your computer checking the latest transfer speculation and gossip, on your mobile on the bus viewing the most up-to-date cricket scores or in the garden catching the action from the Women’s Football World Cup – you’ll have a consistent experience where the site will adapt to fit whatever screen you’re using.

It also means that when we bring new features and functionality to you in the future, we can do this across all parts of Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Sport online in a quick, cost-effective way.

What’s happening next?

We know that change can sometimes be difficult – and take a while to get used to. That’s why we’re not doing this all at once – and will be moving certain parts of the site over gradually in the coming weeks and months.

And don’t worry – you’ll still get all the stories, features, live coverage, video, scores and tables you’re used to from the old site.

Mobile users are already seeing a responsive version of the Sport website. Today, you’ll have the option to try the new site on desktop and large tablet devices too, with our new Cricket and Rugby Union beta homepages. These will be followed soon after by new beta versions of our story and video pages and eventually a beta of the new Sport homepage. Over time the full site will move to be responsive.

This is just the start

We’ve tested our new pages with users while we’ve been working on them to try to make sure we’re giving you the best experience possible. But we know this is just the start.

We want to hear from you about what you like, dislike, and think could do with a bit of tweaking. That’s why we’ve set up a survey for you to provide us with feedback. You can access the survey from each of our Cricket and Rugby Union beta homepages:

We’ll be updating you with changes we’re making to the site – and what we’ve done to build in your feedback over the coming weeks and months.

We want to make these changes as seamless as possible and give you even more of the sport you love whenever you want it. Here’s to a great summer of sporting action.
