As for the mimicry, I can't help myself with certain friends; if I have to relate some tall tale concerning a mate I always descend into character. It's people's foibles that make them interesting, n'est-ce pas.

Like when I'm in the doghouse with the Genius daughter. I always know when I've crossed the line and am about to go on to the naughty step, and can mimic this perfectly. The eyes half close and the top lip gets slightly sucked in, rather like Miss Piggy just before the HARRRRRUMPH. Hurrah.

Not that I myself have any foibles. I, of course, am perfect and flawless.

It has always peeved me when someone decides to jump on a character band wagon and write "The Young ......." Sherlock Holmes, James Bond etc. etc. I know they are written to introduce the younger generation to a character - but the quality of writing leaves alot to be desired. Good luck to the "new" Ian Fleming - if Joanna Lumley's program last night is anything to go by he has a fairly big, and flash pair of shoes to fit into!

I read a whole book today!! Feel really ashamed, had so many jobs to do but once I got reading I couldn't stop - Double Fault by Lionel Shriver.

I can't do impressions but my kids are great, I'm too self-conscious I think.

A marvellous time was had by all some years back at the brother-outlaw's party, him with the mouthful of Brillo pad and meself done up to the max as Rosa Klebb with the pickle forks in me shoes. Oh yes. Went with a swing, and if only some eejit hadn't put the Pogues on and started me off on the Riverdancin', nobody would have ended up in casualty with stitches in their bottom.

On the news this morning they were talking about the gap between the rich and the poor widening. At my work we are always given a pay rise as a percentage - so, of course, the gap between the highest paid and the lowest paid widens. I'm all for a flat rate wage rise. It would mean rucks to those at the bottom and would encourage more vigorous campaigning by those at the top to make it more worthwhile to them too!

D'ya know, I've looked everywhere. Hunted high and low. In all the nooks and crannies and I just cannot find .... my voice! It was there when I went to bed last night, but come this morning, it has been replaced with some weird sound with potential for an 0898 phone-line!

Christmas: been thinking about it for ages, but haven't bought any prezzies yet. I have cards aplenty - need to revise my list this year as many bloggers need to be added! I'll probably try and do the majority of my crimbo shopping on-line and then get the silly stocking fillers in the West End when I go up to meet Hazel in December.

Lyndyloo - my cousin went to NY for New Year 2007/08 and had an absolute ball!!

Pay rises: Jen: the percentage thing was how pay rises were done when I worked in local government. Very nice if you're the CEO on 100K+, but not so effective for a lowly admin/typist on 12K. Sadly, they just couldn't see it. Not even when the Senior Managers had their hollibobs in Barbados and the typing pool could only dream of a caravan in Walton On The Naze!

Hello bloggers just introducing myself and wanted to let you all know of another great book...

I just finished reading The Surgeon of Crowthorne on your recommendation, Chris. Really enjoyed it - amazing story - and especially loved the bit in the notes at the back about how the author got hold of some of the original printing plates which were being skipped - and how he got them printed and displayed...an extra dimension to the story!

If you liked that, you'll LOVE "The Vitamin Murders" by James Fergusson. Another true, amazing story (a whodunnit) interweaved with the story of the debasement of the British diet since WWII and the shocking story of how our food's become so contaminated by chemicals since then. Its a BRILLIANT book....please put it next on your must-read list!...I know how you love your food!!

I think we're all going through bad times presently one way or another.
If am 'onest things are very very bad for me too at present... no matter 'ow 'ard a try ter better my life it never works..... but a won't let it stop me blogging or trying ter make a few laugh on the blog.... it's a crazy life!!!!!

The nurse at my local surgery told me yesterday that she is retiring. She is going to be 60 and she is getting married. So life can begin at 60! She's lovely, I'm very happy for her.

Virtual hugs are great and the thought is so lovely but today, I really need a great big, proper hug. I guess I'll have to wait until I pick up LM later.

But sometimes you have to be cruel to be kind.

Sending people the messages of sympathy often does not work when what they need to hear is pull yourself together.
Otherwise people can spiral into self pity.


Have a laugh do something crazy but talking about problems only makes them worse.

Prof Plum - You are mega accurate with the astro thingy (which should also apply ter Super B - another cap) but I disagree with the 'stable' one.....
Never owned or indeed riden a 'orse in me life!!!!!

To be fair PP when someone is suffering from depression one of the worst things that you can say to them is 'pull yourself together'.

I don't want sympathy. Support is nice but I don't want anyone feeling sorry for me.

Now I have some really, really low times that I don't even hint at on this blog. Haven't done so for ages.

But sometimes it's just nice to reach out, be honest and let people know that you aren't feeling great.

I understand what you are trying to imply though and I appreciate that and point taken.

And I could do with a good laugh, so go for it :)
