See, the thing about being nominated for an award is ....
...from the moment you are nominated you then basically have several weeks of waiting to not win.
And if you do win, you are so relieved at not having lost that it's pretty hard to be in the moment of triumph anyhow.
If all this sounds like me trying to convince myself that it's better to be out of it early than in it up until the last fence and then falling, then you're absolutely right.
Johnny and Rebecca were ace co-hosts last night and we all enjoyed a free beer on the Radio Academy afterwards.
Tonight thirsty Thursday rolls on and we have our first team night out of the year to boot.
Isn't life just the biggest of laughs, awards or no awards. Rock on people.

I totally get what you are saying. And perhaps, after your tremendous success last year, it's not a bad thing to have a year off from being nominated!
As much as I love my Radio 2, I would love to see George Bowie win, but no chance can he beat Chris Moyles (who is fab of course).
And yes, Chris, in the main life can be the biggest of laughs ...... except when it's not funny!

I know exactly what you mean about awards...
...Actually that's a lie, I don't, but I could imagine.
It's kind of like when you think you might get a certificate at shcool, or when you think you may have won "employee of the month".
That agonising wait, with you depicting in your head how the special moment will go, then when you do win you start smiling like a blithering idiot, only to realise what you have won.
A certificate...or employee of the month....
...then you get nicknamed brown-nose.
You can't win....literally.

Well Bob Harris played Start Me Up last Saturday after he'd been away for the previous 2 weeks - he knows how to do things.
And 2 days ago my finger slipped on the volume button and hit the tuning button, and it slipped to Petroc on In Tune who was playing Land of Hope and Glory as the opening tune to celebrate the launch of the new Proms season - maybe more Friday Night is Music Night than your show, but there's always hope - it had me bobbing as I drove through the Cotswold fields with the great English pride that you get at the Albert Hall in September.
